Reiki Nidra

Join Sophie for this 2 hour workshop designed restore the whole body and mind. Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by placing hands on or near the body. Reiki is based on the idea that an unseen life force energy flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's life force energy is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

Our workshop will begin laying in a comfortable positon while Sophie administers hands on Reiki to each participant. This will be followed by a 60 minute Yoga Nidra session. Laying in Savasana, while supported by props, and snuggled in a blanket - you will be softly guided into Nidra. This state of total mind awareness, while your physical body drifts into “sleep” is the perfect way to rejuvinate your body.

April 14th 7-9pm.

$40.

Max 6 participants due to the nature of the workshop and ensure plenty of hands on Reiki.

Yoga for Guys

Yoga for Guys

Join Jeff for this 4 week workshop.

Investment: $79. Includes 4 sessions and a one month membership once the 4 week session has ended.

This series will introduce you to yoga poses and techniques to build flexibility, identify and build strength in weaker areas, relieve pain and focus the mind.

Yoga is for everyone, athletes included. Yoga works on strength, flexibility, balance, agility, endurance, core, and overall strength, among other things. Everyone benefits hugely by adding yoga to their training regimen. No matter your level of physical activity, you'll gradually improve mobility and get started on a path towards new fitness goals.

Yoga for Guys will work on:

Increasing flexibility, joint mobility and postural alignment (Practicing yoga increases flexibility and ease of movement, therefore increasing range of motion. In particular, athletes in sports that require swinging action (tennis, golf, etc.) can benefit greatly. Flexibility in general also helps to prevent injury)

Increasing joint mobility (Yoga helps strengthen all of the little stabilizing muscles that people tend to miss in other physical workouts and are vital in protecting your joints and spine (among other things)

Improving strength and muscle tone (No amount of weight-lifting with free weights will give you the strength that consistently holding up your own body weight will)

Improving Endurance (The endurance that the ease of yoga gives you lends to endurance sports like running, triathlons, and Iron Mans. When you learn to tune into your body and mind, everything can be a meditation—sports included. Yoga also helps you learn how to pace yourself: slow and steady, in it for the long haul)

Improving focus + productivity

Improving balance (Balancing poses in yoga improve overall balance in everything you do, preventing falls and injury.  When you learn how to be soft and go with the flow, you can more easily bend and are less likely to break or fall over)

Stress release and an opportunity to unwind from the busy-ness of your life

Eliminating the pressure and uncertainties around attending a regular drop-in class, this full spectrum course is designed to create a safe, welcoming and familiar space for men of all ages, level of physical fitness/flexibility, and experience with yoga.

We invite you to come as you are, and to join us in a movement, breath and mindfulness practice that will shift your perspective - away from the ideas and images you may have about yoga that reinforce a belief this powerful wellness practice isn’t for you.  Let us show you how to gently ease your body into postures without forcing or straining tight muscles, while simultaneously accessing your breath more fully and easily.

If interest and attendance in the workshop is high, we will look at having a regular ongoing Yoga for Guys class in our schedule.

Inversion Series (4 weeks)
Nov
3
to Nov 24

Inversion Series (4 weeks)

During this 4 week workshop you will be carefully guided into a variety of basic to advanced inversions, with modifications, props, and full variations of each pose.  We will break down the physical requirements for lifting and use core/upper body strengthening as well as hamstring and lower back opening exercises to help transition into lifting more easily. Special attention will be paid to the shoulders including placement, strengthening and opening exercises. We’ll also discuss some self-love exercises to do outside of practice to prevent wrist issues.

Learning to invert the body can be a joyous and fun experience. There are many small steps that we can take towards the full expression of these postures. The mental effort is enormous and your troubles will melt away as you play and laugh your way through this workshop.

Who is this course good for?

This course is appropriate for everyone!  All of these asanas have preparation exercises that we will practice.

Inversions we will work towards:

•Adho Mukha Svanasana - Downward Facing Dog

•Viparita Karani - Legs up the wall

•Makarasana - Dolphin

•Salamba Sarvangasana - Shoulder Stand

•Sirsasana – Headstand and Salamba Sirsasana II – Supported Headstand (Tripod)

•Adho Mukha Vrksasana - Handstand

When we invert the body the front of the body becomes the back of the body in the way of perception. Falling forward will place you on your back and this is scary! Developing awareness in these unusual places so that you can come out of the pose with grace can be accomplished by using the wall and working in partners.

We will learn and practice exercises that build stability, flexibility and fortitude in the core, hands, arms, shoulders and upper back. Counter these strength building techniques with yin stretches that release tension and will allow you to relax into the postures.

What can this course do for you?

Inverting the body is very good for stress as placing the body upside-down soothes the sympathetic nervous system. Our ‘flight/fight and freeze’ response is satiated and our parasympathetic system ‘rest and digest mode’ is stimulated. An overall feeling of calm and tranquility lies in the wake of a long inversion.

It takes time to master these poses and you may not describe these poses as relaxing at the onset but with practice you will! Learn how to do these postures when you are not stressed so that when the pressure goes up in your life you have these tools mastered and ready to go.

Purchase your event ticket in the store. $60.
